The new year means new development and new possibilities – and that’s also true in the movies, where it’s time to stop thinking about the great exciting multiplex experiences we had in 2016, but on all the fantastic ones we’re about to have in the next twelve Months. As it has become more and more the case of Hollywood, however, a diverse range of dramas, comedies, and possible start-up franchises are also poised to debut in the coming months. Even without knowing exactly what out-of-left stellar works can reach the end of December, here’s our list of the fifteen new movies we’re most excited to see in 2017.

  1. Logan (March 3)

Deadpool proved it last again that S-rated superhero movies can be creative and financially successful. With Hugh Jackman taking his role as Marvel Wolverine (reportedly for the last time), the film will take his hero in a gritty, somber, post-apocalyptic direction. Now, Logan will try to reconfirm that point in a distinctly different way.

  1. The Snowman (October 13)

It was rumored that Martin Scorsese interested in making this adaptation of Joe Nesbø’s detective novel about Michael Fassbender. Michael was an investigator assigned to locate a missing woman whose scarf is wrapped around a snowman. Although the famous director passed away, his replacement, Thomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), seems an ideal fit for this cold mystery, which will also be featuring J.K. Simmons, Rebecca Ferguson, Val Kilmer and Chloë Sevigny.

  1. Star Wars: Episode VIII (December 15)

Forget the footnote to Rogue One-extended feature length: what fans are clamoring for is the next installment of Rian Johnson in the primary Star Wars storyline, which will pick up where The Force stopped Awakens with Luke Skywalker! Also, it will now function as the serial swan song for the late Carrie Fisher, who completed the work in the sequel before dying suddenly shortly after Christmas. Undoubtedly it will be the most spectacular and biggest film of 2017.

  1. Kong: Skull Island (March 10)

It seems you cannot keep a giant at bay, as King Kong will once again strike the screen in this pre-summer blockbuster.  It will focus on a group of military men and women (including Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston, and John Goodman) who venture recklessly to Kong’s home island. Intended to be the beginning of a new franchise potential, it has the look of a new themed monster mash apocalypse.

  1. Mother (TBD)

For his first film since Noah’s 2014, Darren Aronofsky will offer this intriguing drama/thriller about a couple whose lives are thrown into a loop that unexpected visitors come on their doorstep. With contemporary Aronofsky flamenco, Jennifer Lawrence, as well as Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Harrison and Javiers Bardems, looks tailor-made for a late-season release.
